Barbara Buckinx is a Research Scholar and Lecturer at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University, and Executive Director and Director of Global Policy and Ethics at the Liechtenstein Institute on Self-Determination. She received her PhD in Politics from Princeton University and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology and Social and Political Theory from the University of Edinburgh. 

Her research focuses on global governance, migration and refugee policy, citizenship and borders, with additional interests in environmental and gender policy. Her work has appeared in Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy, Democratic Theory, PS: Political Science & Politics, Migration Studies, and American Journal of International Law Unbound, among others. Her article on “The case against removal: Jus noci and harm in deportation practice” (co-authored, A. Filindra) was the Winner of the 2015 Migration Studies Prize for Best Article. She is co-editor of Domination and Global Political Justice: Conceptual, Historical, and Institutional Perspectives (Routledge). 

At Princeton, Dr. Buckinx teaches courses on migration and refugee policy and ethical policymaking. At LISD, she leads programs on global governance, environment and migration, ethics of policy, gender, and Africa. Her work seeks to bridge normative political theory and policy research, with particular attention to the ethical dimensions of public policy and global governance.
