Princeton SPIA spotlighted Dr. Buckinx's co-authored 100-page UN report on the reintegration of children formerly associated with armed forces and armed groups, highlighting LISD's collaboration with the UN Office of the SRSG for Children and Armed Conflict. "I engage in this type of applied research because it offers a way to translate academic insights into concrete guidance for governments, U.N. agencies, and civil-society actors," Dr. Buckinx said.

UN Report Launch at Austrian Mission, New York
December 2025
Dr. Buckinx and LISD Gender and Security Fellows presented the inaugural volume of student policy briefs, Ethics in Policy: Student Policy Briefs on Immigration and the Environment, Volume 1, at a report launch event at the Austrian Mission to the United Nations in New York, followed by a meeting with the UNDP Africa Bureau.
Princeton Workshop on Geoengineering Ethics and Governance

Dr. Buckinx chaired the session on "Governance and Legitimacy" at the first-ever Princeton Workshop on Geoengineering Ethics and Governance, organized by the Climate Futures Initiative. The two-day workshop brought together philosophers, social scientists, climate scientists, and engineers to examine the ethical implications of solar radiation management and other geoengineering approaches.

Faculty Organizer of UN Veto Initiative Simulation
May 2024
Dr. Buckinx organized LISD's second annual student-led simulation of the UN Veto Initiative, bringing together diplomats, Princeton faculty, and undergraduates to test scenarios for the application of UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/76/262. "Our simulations give experts and practitioners a chance to observe what a debate about a resolution might look like in this context," Dr. Buckinx said. LISD has since expanded the event to a fourth annual simulation.
COP27 Delegation Member
November 2022
Dr. Buckinx attended the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, as a member of Princeton University's official delegation, advocating for climate finance and loss-and-damage frameworks for small island states facing existential threats from sea-level rise.
LISD Report Cited in UN General Assembly Selected Bibliography

The LISD report Self-Determination and Sea-Level Rise (2021), co-authored by Dr. Buckinx with M. Edbrooke and R. Ibrahem, was included in the UN General Assembly's selected bibliography on sea-level rise in relation to international law (UN Document A/CN.4/752/Add.1, 2022).
